Cancer and Vincristine

Vincristine sulfate (Vincasar PFS®) is a medication available by prescription only and approved to treat acute leukemia. This type of cancer affects bone marrow and certain blood cells. Vincristine works by disrupting how cancer cells grow and multiply. It slows down the growth of cancer cells and may even cause the cells to die.

There may also be times when a healthcare provider prescribes vincristine to treat other conditions, such as chronic leukemia or Kaposi's sarcoma; however, these are unapproved ("off-label") uses for the medication.
