Sprycel® (dasatinib) is a medication prescribed to treat certain types of leukemia in adults. Although it can be an effective treatment for many people, there are some complications to be aware of with this medicine. For example, Sprycel can cause cardiac toxicity, which means this drug can cause damage to the heart.
Cardiac toxicity can lead to several complications, such as:
- Heart attack
- Congestive heart failure
- Left ventricular dysfunction (when the left ventricle of the heart doesn't function normally).
Your healthcare provider will monitor your heart function during Sprycel treatment, and treat you if necessary.
