Leukemia and Mitoxantrone

Healthcare providers may prescribe mitoxantrone (Novantrone®) for the initial treatment of acute nonlymphocytic leukemia (ANLL). It is designed for use in combination with other ANLL medications, and is approved for use in adults only. This drug works by preventing DNA from multiplying and dividing correctly, which can eventually cause cell death.
There are also some "off-label," or unapproved, uses for mitoxantrone. Some off-label uses for this drug include treating non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia in children.
