Marqibo Side Effects

People who are going to receive Marqibo should be aware that this chemotherapy drug often causes side effects, such as constipation, nausea, and fatigue. Although there may be ways to help prevent or lessen reactions to this drug, some problems are potentially dangerous and require immediate medical treatment. For example, contact your healthcare provider immediately if you develop confusion, unusual bleeding, or fever.

An Introduction to Marqibo Side Effects

Just like other chemotherapy medications, Marqibo® (liposomal vincristine sulfate) can cause side effects. In fact, most people will experience some type of reaction to this drug, and some side effects can be quite significant. Talk to your healthcare provider about ways to prevent or lessen reactions to this medicine.

Common Side Effects With Marqibo

Marqibo has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in people given Marqibo were carefully documented. As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred and how often they appeared.
 
Based on these studies, possible Marqibo side effects may include:
 
  • Constipation -- in up to 57 percent of people
  • Nausea -- up to 52 percent
  • Fever -- up to 43 percent
  • Fatigue -- up to 41 percent
  • Numbness, tingling, burning, or abnormal feelings in the arms, hands, legs, or feet -- up to 39 percent
  • Fever with low levels of a type of white blood cell known as neutrophils (see Chemotherapy and Infections) -- up to 38 percent
  • Diarrhea -- up to 37 percent
  • Anemia (low red blood cell counts) -- up to 34 percent (see Chemotherapy and Anemia)
  • Decreased appetite -- up to 33 percent
  • Insomnia -- up to 32 percent.
