Leukemia is a type of cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue, such as the bone marrow. It causes large numbers of blood cells to be produced and enter the bloodstream. There are four types of this cancer, grouped by which blood cells are affected and how quickly the disease develops and worsens. Treatment for leukemia may include chemotherapy, biological therapy, surgery, radiation therapy, and various other forms of therapy.
