Leukemia Home > Cancer and Elitek

The prescription drug Elitek® (rasburicase) is used to help control uric acid levels in people who are undergoing cancer treatment for leukemia, lymphoma, or cancerous solid tumors. It is approved for use in children and adults.
People who are being treated for these specific cancers have an increased risk for developing high uric acid levels. By helping control uric acid levels, Elitek can help prevent potentially dangerous complications, such as kidney failure, seizures, and death. This medicine is given as a slow injection into a vein (an intravenous, or IV, injection) once a day for up to five days.
