Leukeran for CLL

Adults who have been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) may receive Leukeran® (chlorambucil) as part of their chemotherapy treatment. Although this prescription medicine is not a cure for this disease, Leukeran can help relieve symptoms of CLL.
CLL is a slow-growing leukemia that starts in the lymphocytes (a type of blood cell). Leukemia occurs when the bone marrow produces a large amount of abnormal blood cells that grow out of control. These abnormal blood cells eventually crowd out normal, healthy blood cells. This can lead to serious problems, including bleeding, anemia, and infection.
Leukeran works by interfering with DNA replication, which is a process necessary for cells to copy themselves and divide. This causes cell death.
