Vincristine Drug Information

When used for cancer treatment, vincristine sulfate (Vincasar PFS®) works to slow down the progression of the disease by stopping cell growth and causing the cancer cells to die. It is approved to treat acute leukemia, and can also be used in combination with other drugs to treat other types of cancer.
 
Vincristine comes as an injection that is given intravenously (by IV) once a week. Most people who use this medicine will experience some type of side effect, such as hair loss, constipation, or numbness.
 
Although this drug may help in cancer treatment, not everyone can use this it. Information on vincristine should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize your risk for certain complications. For instance, people who have problems with their heart, liver, or lungs may not be able to safely use this medicine.
