Mitoxantrone Drug Information

When used for treating multiple sclerosis or certain types of cancer, mitoxantrone (Novantrone®) works by preventing DNA from multiplying and dividing correctly. This prescription medicine is approved for use in adults only and is specifically designed to treat the following conditions:
 
 
Although mitoxantrone may help in treating these conditions, not everyone can use this drug. Information on precautions and warnings should be discussed with your healthcare provider before starting treatment to minimize your risk for certain complications. For instance, people who have problems with low blood cell counts or those with heart problems may not be able to safely use this medicine.
 
Mitoxantrone comes as a liquid that is injected in a vein (intravenous, or IV, injection). Most people who receive it will experience some type of side effect, such as nausea, infections, or low blood cell counts.
